When Marijke is 8 years old her mother leaves the family to join a religious sect, called the ‘Gemeente Gods’, or ‘the sect of Sipke Vrieswijk’. Now, 30 years later, Marijke attempts to unravel the story of her mother, with whom she has had no contact ever since. A confrontation seems inevitable.

Hester Overmars
Hester Overmars graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Culture Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1997 and has been making documentaries ever since. In 2007 she was nominated for a Gouden Kalf (the Dutch ‘Oscar’) for the short documentary Martha Vonk goes to Istanbul (50 mins.) And in 2015 she won a Gouden Kalf with the short documentary Forbidden Flight (53 min.) In 2012 she made the long documentary The Master’s Voice (81 min.) which was theatrically released by Cinema Delicatessen. In addition to script writing and directing she also works as script editor and teacher.
