The sixth edition of the festival will be opened by Cristina Berlini and Letizia Papi. Greetings will follow from the new mayor of the Municipality of Massa Marittima, Irene Marconi and the president of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Massa Marittima, Ambra Fontani.
SLOT 1
Researcher Gerdien Smit (Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam) will provide a historical context for the film Donna: Women in Revolt, produced and distributed 43 years ago by the Dutch feminist film collective Cinemien. Smit will explore Cinemien’s pioneering work in promoting feminist films. This film, along with the rest of the Cinemien collection, is now held in the Eye Filmmuseum archive.

The Dutch journalist, former correspondent in Italy, Yvonne Scholten, impressively portrays 80 years of female resistance in Italy. Starting from the brutal fascist attack on the free Roman radio station Radio Donna in 1979.

The documentary tells the story of Bosk, an extraordinary land art project that brought over a thousand trees to the Dutch city of Leeuwarden (Friesland), changing the lives of its citizens forever.

In the shade of a magnolia, a group of pregnant women meet every week in the Bosco di Capodimonte park in Naples. With them is Teresa, an expert midwife who listens to them. The women in a circle reflect on the birth of the Son they carry in their wombs and on themselves as new mothers.

This Film offers a burning Window on the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores the themes of loss, trauma and the search for justice.
Followed by a short speech by Luisa Morgantini, president of the Assopace Palestina Association.

Sultana’s Dream
Isabel Herguera | 85 minutes | Spain, India, Germany, 2023
Inés, a Spanish artist, lives in India and comes across Sultana’s Dream, a science fiction story written by Rokeya Hossain in 1905. It describes Ladyland, a utopia where women rule the country while men live in isolation and are responsible for household chores. Fascinated by the story, Inés embarks on a journey across the country in search of the only place where women can live in peace.
The film’s composer, Gianmarco Serra, will be present, bringing original drawings, some cut-outs and answering questions from the audience.
After the Film, the DocuDonna 2024 jury, composed of Lizzie Thynne, director and writer of media and Film, Gerdien Smit, collaborator and researcher at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam and Yvonne Scholten, journalist and director, will proclaim the best Italian and international documentary and the Special Mention.
